Bu kitap, William Saroyan\u2019\u0131n 1934\u2019te ilk kez yay\u0131mlanan metni olma \u00f6zelli\u011fini de ta\u015f\u0131yor. Kitaba da ad\u0131n\u0131 veren \u2018U\u00e7an Trapezdeki Cesur Gen\u00e7 Adam\u2019 ise yazar\u0131n yay\u0131mlanan ilk \u00f6yk\u00fcs\u00fc. Kitap, \u0130rma Dolano\u011flu \u00c7imen taraf\u0131ndan T\u00fcrk\u00e7eye \u00e7evrildi. Metinde ayr\u0131ca daha \u00f6nce yine Aras Yay\u0131nc\u0131l\u0131k taraf\u0131ndan yay\u0131mlanm\u0131\u015f, Ohannes K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7da\u011f\u0131 taraf\u0131ndan \u00e7evrilmi\u015f \u00f6yk\u00fcler de var.<\/p>\n<p>Yukar\u0131da da bahsetti\u011fimiz gibi Saroyan\u2019\u0131n bu metinde yer verilen \u00f6yk\u00fclerinde yine insan\u0131 anlama \u00e7abas\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6ne \u00e7\u0131kt\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 g\u00f6r\u00fcyoruz, bunun yan\u0131 s\u0131ra Saroyan \u00f6yk\u00fclerinde epey belirgin olarak hissetti\u011fimiz anti-militarizm vurgusunu da g\u00f6rebiliyoruz. Gen\u00e7 bir yazar olarak yazma \u00e7abas\u0131n\u0131, nedenlerini, \u00e7ekti\u011fi s\u0131k\u0131nt\u0131y\u0131, \u00fcsluptan, bi\u00e7imden, kuraldan ne anlad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131, babas\u0131yla olan \u00f6zel diyebilece\u011fimiz ili\u015fkisini bize aktarma \u00e7abas\u0131n\u0131, kendi benli\u011fini metinlerinden esirgemeyerek ortaya koyuyor yazar. Bu a\u00e7\u0131dan metin, Saroyan okuru a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan onu anlamaya bizi biraz daha yakla\u015ft\u0131r\u0131p, yaz\u0131yla kurdu\u011fu ili\u015fkinin sebeplerini daha yak\u0131ndan g\u00f6rmemizi sa\u011fl\u0131yor. Bu kitapta yer verilen \u00f6yk\u00fclerin yazar\u0131n bir \u015fekilde kendine yazarl\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 kan\u0131tlamak i\u00e7in yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcl\u00fcrse, okur, metinde onun yazarl\u0131\u011f\u0131na dair hissiyat\u0131na da biraz daha h\u00e2kim olabiliyor fikrimce. \u00d6zellikle metnin sonunda yer verilen, 1964\u2019te yeni bask\u0131 i\u00e7in yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00f6ns\u00f6z olan, \u2018Otuz Y\u0131l Sonra\u2019 adl\u0131 yaz\u0131s\u0131, onun yazarl\u0131k deneyiminden \u00f6\u011frenecek \u00e7ok \u015fey oldu\u011funu hat\u0131rlat\u0131rken, farkl\u0131 konulardaki fikirlerine de eri\u015fmemizi sa\u011fl\u0131yor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAROYAN VE YAZI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saroyan daha okul g\u00fcnlerinde insanlara hik\u00e2ye anlatman\u0131n \u00f6nemini kavrad\u0131\u011f\u0131ndan bahsediyor ama bununla birlikte \u015funu da fark ediyor: Bir yazar\u0131n kendi kurallar\u0131 olmal\u0131. Bu nedenle Ring Lardner gibi isimlerin kurallar\u0131n\u0131 inceliyor ama yanl\u0131\u015f olduklar\u0131na karar veriyor. Yazar\u0131n okulla ve kurallarla pek bar\u0131\u015f\u0131k olmayan mizac\u0131n\u0131 hat\u0131rlad\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131zda garip gelmeyecektir. Bu nedenle onun yaz\u0131 deneyiminde kendi c\u00fcmleleriyle s\u00f6ylersek \u015fu \u00f6nemli: \u201cBu kurallar beni saf d\u0131\u015f\u0131 b\u0131rakmaktayd\u0131 ve bana kal\u0131rsa, bu olaydaki en \u00f6nemli unsur bendim, dolay\u0131s\u0131yla baz\u0131 yeni kurallar koydum.\u201d Saroyan\u2019\u0131n daha \u00e7ok gen\u00e7 ya\u015fta kendi kurallar\u0131n\u0131 olu\u015fturmas\u0131 ki buradaki \u00f6nemli unsur kendi benli\u011fini yaz\u0131n\u0131n\u0131n d\u0131\u015f\u0131na atmamas\u0131, onun yaz\u0131s\u0131n\u0131n bana kal\u0131rsa belirleyici yan\u0131 oluyor. Saroyan\u2019da g\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcm\u00fcz, hi\u00e7 s\u00fcslemeden, serbest\u00e7e dola\u015fan ve kendi ak\u0131\u015f\u0131n\u0131 bulan anlat\u0131n\u0131n bununla ili\u015fkisi kurulabilir ki belirledi\u011fi bir di\u011fer kuralda bunu a\u00e7\u0131k eder: \u201cEdgar Allan Poe\u2019yu ve O. Henry\u2019yi bo\u015fver ve i\u00e7inden geldi\u011fi t\u00fcrde \u00f6yk\u00fcler yaz. \u015eimdiye kadar yazm\u0131\u015f olan kim var kim yok bo\u015f ver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bahsetti\u011fimiz gibi bu yazar\u0131n asl\u0131nda kendi izini takip ederek, o yaz\u0131yla duyurmak istedi\u011fi sese ula\u015fmas\u0131nda \u00f6nemli bir kural olarak g\u00f6r\u00fclebilir. \u00dc\u00e7\u00fcnc\u00fc bir kural\u0131 da, \u201cdaktilo kullanmay\u0131 \u00f6\u011frenmek\u201d ki daktilosuyla kurdu\u011fu yak\u0131n ili\u015fkinin, \u2018U\u00e7an Trapezdeki Cesur Gen\u00e7 Adam ve Di\u011fer \u00d6yk\u00fcler\u2019 kitab\u0131nda yer alan metinlere de s\u0131zd\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 g\u00f6r\u00fcyoruz. Saroyan\u2019\u0131n \u00fcslubunu belirleyen bir \u015feyin de bilindik deyimle yal\u0131nl\u0131k oldu\u011funu s\u00f6yleyebiliriz. Metinde bunun \u00fczerine de d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnebiliyoruz: \u201cB\u00fct\u00fcn ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131 yazarlar, bir kelimenin kendi ba\u015f\u0131na yeterince bir anlam\u0131 olmad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131, dolay\u0131s\u0131yla bir kelimenin anlam\u0131n\u0131 ba\u015fka bir kelimenin yard\u0131m\u0131yla vurgulaman\u0131n en iyi y\u00f6ntem oldu\u011funu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcrler. Kimi yazarlar masum bir kelimeye d\u00f6rt, hatta be\u015f ba\u015fka kelimeyle yard\u0131m edecek kadar ileri gider ve bu yard\u0131mseverlik y\u00fcz\u00fcnden bazen masum bir kelimeyi \u00f6ld\u00fcr\u00fcrler ve hi\u00e7 s\u0131fat bilmeyen cahil bir yazar\u0131n iyi kalplilik y\u00fcz\u00fcnden \u00f6ld\u00fcr\u00fclm\u00fc\u015f bu kelimeyi canland\u0131rmas\u0131 y\u0131llar s\u00fcrer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saroyan metinlerinde \u00e7ok fazla a\u011fdal\u0131 ifadeye rastlamay\u0131z, g\u00f6r\u00fcnenin ilk anlam\u0131na, oldu\u011fu gibi, kendi i\u00e7inde bir do\u011fall\u0131kla akana teslim oluruz. San\u0131r\u0131m bu c\u00fcmlelerde ifade edileni onun metinleriyle d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcm\u00fczde onun yaz\u0131 \u00fcslubunu anlamaya da yak\u0131nla\u015fm\u0131\u015f oluyoruz. Yazar\u0131n \u00f6yk\u00fclerine bu a\u00e7\u0131dan bakt\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131zda, par\u00e7alar\u0131n kaybolmad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131, hepsinin bir \u015fekilde kendi yerini bulup, biri di\u011ferini \u00f6ncelemeyecek \u015fekilde, aradaki ili\u015fkinin korundu\u011funu s\u00f6yleyebiliriz.<\/p>\n<p>Saroyan ve yaz\u0131 meselesi \u00fczerinde \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131lmas\u0131 gereken bir konu ancak burada oda\u011f\u0131m\u0131zdaki metin ekseninde k\u0131saca bahsetmek istedim. Bu anlamda metin, yer verilen \u00f6yk\u00fcler kadar, Saroyan\u2019\u0131n yaz\u0131y\u0131 nas\u0131l sorunsalla\u015ft\u0131rd\u0131\u011f\u0131na dair de fikir veriyor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ANLATIYI PAR\u00c7ALAMAK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saroyan\u2019\u0131n asl\u0131nda her \u00f6yk\u00fcs\u00fcn\u00fc kendi i\u00e7inde bir ba\u011flamla ele almak m\u00fcmk\u00fcn \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc yazar\u0131n anlat\u0131ya ta\u015f\u0131d\u0131\u011f\u0131 meseleler d\u00fcnyan\u0131n g\u00fcndeminden hi\u00e7 eksik olmayan konular ve g\u00fcncel bir yere ba\u011flanabilir ancak bu kitapta yer alan \u00f6yk\u00fclerden \u2018Kay\u0131plar Aras\u0131nda\u2019 \u00fcslup a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan ve ba\u015fka metinlerle kurdu\u011fu diyalog nedeniyle \u00fczerinde ayr\u0131ca durmay\u0131 hak ediyor. Bu \u00f6yk\u00fcde, Paul karakterinin, bahis oynayan bir Rus taraf\u0131ndan b\u0131\u00e7aklanan Red\u2019in \u00f6yk\u00fcs\u00fcn\u00fc dinlemesiyle ba\u015fl\u0131yor anlat\u0131 ve \u00e7i\u00e7ek satan bir Yahudi\u2019nin hik\u00e2yesiyle kesi\u015ftiriliyor. Burada bana daha enteresan gelen ise Ezra Pound\u2019un ayn\u0131 zamanda antisemitist oldu\u011funun bilinmesidir. Her ne kadar Marsh d\u00f6nemin ruhuna ve edebiyat ortam\u0131na uymak i\u00e7in o yaz\u0131lar\u0131 yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 s\u00f6ylese de bana kal\u0131rsa, bir Yahudi\u2019nin hik\u00e2yesiyle Pound nerede kesi\u015fir, araya giren \u015fiir mi kesi\u015ftirir yoksa ba\u015fka \u015feyler mi \u015feklinde sorular sorduruyor metin.
